Deacon John L. Haubenstricker
John L. Haubenstricker is a native of Michigan. He was born in Tuscola Township and attended St. Lorenz Lutheran School in Frankenmuth. He graduated from Millington High School in Millington, MI in 1956. He attended Concordia Teachers College in River Forest, IL and received a Bachelor’s degree in elementary education in 1961. Following graduation, he attended the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis receiving a MS degree in physical education and early childhood development in 1965.
John was called to be a member of the faculty at Concordia Teachers College, River Forest, IL from 1962 until 1973 where he coached football, baseball and wrestling, and taught professional preparation courses in health and physical education. He received his Ph.D. in motor development from Michigan State University in 1971. In 1973 John joined the faculty at Michigan State University where he taught graduate and undergraduate courses in motor skill learning and growth and motor development. During his 30-year career at Michigan State John served in a variety of capacities including Coordinator of the Remedial Motor Clinic, Coordinator of the Motor Performance Study, Director of the Youth Sports Institute, as well as Coordinator of the Undergraduate and the Graduate Programs in the Department of Kinesiology.
John and his wife, Beth, have been members of Ascension Lutheran Church since 1973. While at Ascension John has served as President, elder, weekday school teacher, Sunday school teacher, Bible class teacher, choir member, lay reader, and usher. In the fall of 2005, John entered the Michigan District — LCMS Deacon Training Program and completed his studies in 2008. He has served as deacon at Ascension Lutheran Church since April 2008.
